Why you should visit Belize

Belize is nestled between Mexico and Guatemala with all its natural splendor and untouched resources. With the remains of many Mayan temples and a fascinating mosaic of saltwater, mangroves and cayes. Belize is undoubtedly the most fascinating destination for the most discerning travelers.

Belize also offers the beauty of its surroundings and its people. This is certainly a land worth visiting and offering free tax for retirees, which offers relocation opportunities for retired people. In this article we explain in detail the history and the unique attractions that the island has to offer.

History of Belize

From the records of the early 16th century, the Mayan city of Lamanai in the north of Belize was part of the Spanish Encomienda system in 1544 (royal grant of the right of a Spaniard to work and pay tribute to an indigenous population, the natives too) Christianize). Although the first Spanish contacts with other New World countries have been reported, the proven evidence of Lamanai and the construction of a Spanish church in Lamanai around 1570 have a well-established impact on the European colonies in Belize.

The Mayan society encountered by the first Europeans was a very different population that had undergone many changes since the height of the "classical period". In Belize, contacts with Europeans have harmed the existing Maya through disease, slavery and fighting. During the 18th century, Belize's modern borders were created through forest concessions granted to Great Britain by England. Spain claimed sovereignty but did not populate the country. At that time, British settlers were mostly former pirates who were no longer supported by their governments and were now trying to stop piracy. These settlers demanded British support and protection from the attacks of the remaining Spaniards and Mayans. The most famous battle of the British Army was the Battle of St. George's Caye in 1798; which end the Spanish claims on the territory.

Scuba diving

Due to the unlimited possibilities of diving in Belize, it has become one of the most popular diving destinations for underwater divers on holiday in Belize. It's up to you to decide whether it's a coral reef or a shipwreck you want to experience during your Belize vacation. Some of the best dive sites are the Outer Atolls - Lighthouse Reef, Turneffe Island and Glover's Reef.

The big blue hole

This natural wonder is synonymous with the name Belize, because the ocean is riddled and lies a few miles off the coast of Belize and can be seen from space. This gigantic cave has a diameter of about half a mile and was once inland. But it became part of the ocean millennia ago, then collapsed and formed a spectacular sea hole of about 500 feet in depth. You would need a mini-submarine to get to the bottom of it! This is one of the biggest attractions for divers and even snorkelers who just want to run around claiming to have been in the Great Blue Hole.

Belize Zoo

Belize Zoo is located in a natural forest, 50 km from Belize City and is one of the most beautiful zoos in North and South America. Many of the animals in the Belize Zoo are wild animals kept by individual collectors as pets, and the zoo tries to repack them for a return to nature. Visitors will be able to closely observe Belize's local animals, housed in large enclosures that are very similar to their natural habitats. If you are not an experienced wildlife photographer, this is probably the best place to take great pictures of Belize animals.
