In this article, we will detail the history of St. Lucia and some of the unique attractions the island has to offer.

History of Saint Lucia

The Caribbean was first discovered by the first Arawak settlers around 800 BC. However In the 16th century the first Europeans arrived. However, the historical sources vary with the island's early explorers. The European fought each other between the year 1660 and 1814 on who would have control over the island, and this lead to the change of flag of Saint Lucia for more than 14 times.

After the first unsuccessful attempts of the Spaniards to take control, the possession of the island by the French and the British was often denied bloody. A small English group failed in 1605; Another English colony was founded in 1638 and destroyed three years later by the Caribbean.

The Caribbean resisted the French colonization with equal determination until a peace treaty (1660) allowed them to settle and ensure the safety of some French Martinique settlers who had arrived in the last decade. After which the British once again tried to take control, which leads to Napoleonic Wars. The British eventually took the Treaty of Paris and lead to the island Saint Lucia to become a crown colony.

Saint Lucia became one of the states of the Western United States in 1967 and received a new constitution granting full suffrage to universal suffrage. Saint Lucia became an independent constitutional monarchy and also a member of the Commonwealth in 1979.

The beauty of the island can be associated with the surrounding nature, the richness of its history, the plantations, the tropical forests, the mountains, the hidings, the breathtaking landscapes and the local color.

Pigeon Island National Park

It is a unique main attraction. The island is located in a mountainous area consisting mainly of forests and some manicured lawns. It has a number of historic barracks and old stone walls. Most of them are in ruins, although efforts have been made to restore some of them. One of these restored buildings houses an inviting beach bar called Wood Leg. Diamond Falls

The Diamond Falls are located in the interior of Soufrière which is from the region near the volcano and have a wealth of natural minerals in their waters. These minerals are considered extremely therapeutic with amazing healing qualities. It is said that the King of France once built baths for the health and well-being of his troops in this region. The minerals are perfect for the treatment of rheumatism. The waterfalls are surrounded by stunning tropical gardens. The back is the price for entry into this place. It's a bit steep, but trust me, this place is definitely worth it.

Climb to the Gros Piton

Watching the Piton is enough for many visitors, but you may want to go further and hike with pythons. In this case, the Big Piton is the best option. The rules is that you have to leave with a guide employed by the park and it is easy to get one at the small reception center in the town of Fond Gens Libre, from where you start your trek.

Visit Soufriere

It is the oldest city in St. Lucia. The city was named by the French, because the air here often smells of sulfur because of its proximity to the Soufrière volcano. The city is surrounded by extremely fertile land. The foliage and rainforest that surround it are breathtaking. You can get there by shutting down from Castries. The road that leads to this place is worth the trip. This city has the only slice of the world in volcanoes. Although the volcano can in no way be described as picturesque with stinking dampness stains and a strong smell of sulfur. However, this is worth the detour.

Anse Chastanet

The picturesque Anse Chastanet is without doubt the best beach for snorkeling and diving. It's a quieter alternative than the sandy beach of Reduit Beach.
