History of Jamaica

The history of Jamaica began long before Columbus arrived in 1494. The island of Jamaica has been inhabited for centuries or more by the Arawaks. They lived a simple life in a small community based on fishing, hunting and small-scale farming. The arrival of the Columbus-led Spaniards gave birth to the island's gate, but economic activity also led to new diseases that destroyed the small indigenous communities of the Arawak within a few decades. The trail of early Arawak life can only be seen in some artifacts exhibited in the small Marl White Museum.

Glistening Waters

The glistening water is one of the most unique places on the island. During the day the lagoon is just that. But magic works at night. In the area where the river meets the sea, every movement causes luminescence. The first step is a boat ride in the middle of the lagoon after sunset. Take a refreshing dip in the evening and watch as you glow in the dark. Glittering water is the only bright lagoon on the planet where every night the phenomenon of radiation occurs in the dark.

Firewater pond

The Windsor mineral spring at St. Anne's Bay is unique in Jamaica. At the source there is a small area called Fire Water Pond, where the water can really catch fire. It is believed that this unusual activity is caused by a high concentration of sulfur in the water. The residents of Winsdor St. Ann have told many stories about the healing and rejuvenating effects of water. "Fire massages" are usually given to visitors from the source and the residents even use the pond for cooking.

Blue Mountains and John Crow Mountain National Park

The Blue Mountains is Jamaica's longest mountain range and offer a majestic landscape and lush forest. The Blue Mountains are not only suitable for hiking and camping, but also ideal for cycling in nature. The lively nature trails form wide and unpaved roads ideal for cycling. Nature lovers and hikers can take a guided tour or a solo tour to the Blue Mountain and John Crow Mountain mountains. The park has hundreds of species of plants and birds. You could even see the second largest butterfly in the world.

Swim with horses

It's amazing to see horses swimming in Jamaican waters with visitors on their backs. In some of Jamaica's seaside resorts, such as Half Moon, this riding activity is the highlight of many guests. Thorough horse breeds are trained to swim in the water and are surprisingly good swimmers.

Port Royal

Port Royal was once the capital of the New World pirates, but in 1692 much of the city collapsed under the waves during an earthquake. You can visit the Maritime Museum of the famous Fort Charles, where the cannon watches in silence on the seas. Visit the archaeological and historical museum of Port Royal to see artifacts of the city in the depths of the ocean.

Dolphin Bay

It is perhaps Jamaica's most famous tourist attraction and, as the name implies, the place to swim and play with dolphins. Ocho Rios and Negril Dolphin Cove offer this extraordinary experience with beautiful landscapes, including a lagoon with beautiful blue waters, forests, diving rivers and waterfalls for rock climbing.

Finally, there are many things to see and do in Jamaica, most of which are very traditional and touristic. If you want to see some of the most unique things that Jamaica has to offer, take a trip to Jamaica and discover the island in a whole new way.
