Cayo Levantado Island, is a remote island off the Samaná Peninsula which is also known as Bacardi Island. It is surrounded by sandy beaches with shallow turquoise waters and houses the luxurious Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado.
The island also offers three beaches which is linked by footpaths. It is also one of the most beautiful of the Dominican Republic beaches. To get to Cayo Levantado, the nearest international airport is Samana El Catey International Airport.
The beach is calm on both beaches and the rescuers are patrolling the area. You can view the main beach from the hotel around you, you will find a small island where you can snorkel, sunbathe or watch the underwater world. Hundreds of visitors come on a day trip or cruise to the public beach due to the beach's popularity.
If you are coming from the port of Santa Barbara de Samaná to Cayo Levantado, note that every hour small public boats go by ferry to the island. But if you miss the public boats never worry because you can also rent a private boat. In both cases, the journey takes about 15 minutes.

Playa Grande is an undeveloped beach with a typical Dominican atmosphere. This sandy beach, lined with palm trees and some rustic food stalls in soft coral colors, overlooks the roaring surf of the Atlantic Ocean. There are often big waves here, but there are quiet days and the next section of the car park is somewhat protected by a promontory. This wide beach stretches for over a kilometer, which means that even on busy days you can always find your own sandbank and be alone on weekdays.
Playa Grande is located on the outskirts of Rio San Juan, but day trips to this beach can be easily arranged from Cabarete or Puerto Plata.
Renting a car is the best way to explore this area. Playa Grande fits perfectly into a highway on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. If you are coming from Cabrera it takes about 12 miles while Rio San Juan takes less than 4 miles, Puerto Plata takes about 75 miles and Cabarete takes 34 miles to get to Playa Grande. From the international airports of Samaná and Puerto Plata it takes about one and a half hours to get to Playa Grande, also Playa Grande is a 2.5-hour drive from Santo Domingo.

Bahía de las Águilas known as Eagle's Bay Is located in the southwest of the Dominican Republic. The Bahía de las Águilas beach features the most beautiful turquoise waters of the Caribbean island. The beach is reachable either by speedboat or by off-road vehicle and offers a breathtaking view of the more than five kilometers long beach. Due to the seclusion of Bahía de las Águilas, you almost never have to share it with other visitors. However, the Bahia de Las Aguilas beach is not well developed same as the surrounding area, because of this factor most visitors stay in Barahona and only spend the day at the beach.
To get to Bahía de las Águilas, you would need a rental car, because Barahona is around 2.5 hours away and Santo Domingo is 6 hours away. From the restaurant "La Cueva" in Cabo Rojo you can take a speedboat into the bay, which takes about 10-15 minutes. It is also accessible by car, but you need an SUV as the road is unpaved.
